ZR-3 (German Zeppelin LZ-126) christened Los Angeles by Mrs Calvin Coolidge at NAS Anacostia, Washington, D.C.

1955

Vought test pilot John Konrad completes the first flight of the experimental XF8U-1 Crusader naval fighter, during which he reaches Mach 1.2.  The aircraft is subsequently redesignated simply F-8 and is put into quantity production as a fighter and reconnaissance a/c with the Navy and Marines.

1960

The first NASA flight in the X-15 hypersonic research program gets under way when test pilot Joseph A. Walker makes the first of his flights in this aircraft.

1965

Air National Guard received approval to display standard USAF markings on aircraft

1993

Barbara Harmer, British Airways, becomes the first woman to copilot a commercial SST as the first officer on the Concorde from London to New York City.
