Boeing "Hornet Shuttle," NR397E, was used by Boeing and supported by the USAAC in refueling experiments in 1929 that included several coast-to-coast flights between Oakland and New York with refueling occurring over Elko, Nev., Cheyenne, Wy., and Cleveland, Ohio. USAAC participants included Capt. Ira Eaker, Capt. Clair Streett, Lt. Benard Thompson and Lt. Newton, Longfellow. Boeing pilots were Clair Vance and Harold Lewis. (Boeing photo)
