The first DST-144, X14988, is seen on December 18, 1835, the day after its first flight. The vertical fin is in the original configuration before the dorsal fin extension was added. The Wright Cyclone engines on American’s DSTs had a single row of cylinders and the narrow chord engine cowling is apparent in this photograph. (Douglas Aircraft Co. (DAC) photo SM 8587)
