The Douglas O-31A was a departure from the previous biplane designs. Note the kingpost and the externally braced wing. A Curtiss V-1570-53 engine of 600 hp supplied the power. The U.S. Army Air Corps procured five O-31As during 1932/1933. (Photo from the Harry S. Gann collection via Al Hansen)
