The tiered radar defence created by the three radar "picket" lines: DEW Line above the arctic circle provided initial detection, with the Mid-Canada Line confirming and the DEW Line reports. The Pinetree Line along the southern Canadian border helped provide further intercept control. All were networked into the SAGE system. (US Defense Dept. drawing)
