The Bendix Model 51A amphibian (NX40051) was essentially the same as the Model 51 landplane above the fuselage split line. At a key point on the production line either a short lower fuselage would be attached to the upper module for the landplane version, or an elongated hull would be attached for the amphibious version. Tip floats had not yet been installed when this photo was taken. (Bendix photo No. 16090)
