This book covers the history of the four engine turbo-prop powered Lockheed airliner of the prepure jet era. Included are the development and testing of the 14 original airlines, the current operators, the Whirl Mode crashes, the fix with the LEAP (Lockheed Electra Action Program) modifications. Fire Bombers, Storm Chasers, Sub Hunters, Air Freighters, and Air Sprayers. Lockheed lost 53 million dollars on the 170 Electras that were built. The aircraft went on to become the successful Navy P-3 Orion with over 700 built. In the 49-year history of Eastern Airlines, the Electra flew longer than any other aircraft operated by that carrier. Its first scheduled flight was on January 12,1959, and the last on October 31,1977. This was a period of over 18 years, which was a long time for an interim aircraft. As with all of the Airliner/Warbird Series, this book is a good value. It is presented in an.easy to read format and includes many interesting technical drawings. - Walt
