When Al Williams joined Gulf Oil Corporation as manager of the Aviation Department in 1933, he modified his Hawk by replacing the Bristol Jupiter engine with a 710 Hp Wright Cyclone.  The new engine was fitted with a Townend speed ring to improve engine cooling and increase speed.
