A little-known type in the CAA/FAA fleet was a pair of Martin RB-57A bombers acquired in 1957. They were lent from the USAF to explore high altitude navigation aid performance while awaiting delivery of a pair of Boeing KC-135s from Boeing. One of the B-57s was lost in a June 1960 accident near Great Mills, Maryland, while the other was returned to the USAF in 1963. This view shows N97 in 1960. (FAA) |
